Our Story
Nicole Fairweather is a dedicated educator with a passion for early literacy and supporting diverse learners. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario in 2012, Nicole began her teaching career in a remote community in the Northwest Territories, where she discovered her love for teaching elementary students specifically those struggling to read.
Over the next decade, Nicole taught Grades 1 and 2, eventually becoming the Literacy Coordinator at her school. She actively sought professional development opportunities, focusing on strategies to support struggling readers. Eventually, this led her to pursue a Master of Education Degree at the University of Ottawa, specializing in Special and Inclusive Education and Trauma-Informed Learning and Leadership.
After returning back to Ontario with her husband and two children, Grace and Wyatt, Nicole took on the role of Student Success teacher with the Huron Perth Catholic School Board where she now supports vulnerable youth in completing their high school education.
In 2021, inspired by the Science of Reading movement and the mission to foster the ability and love for reading in all children, Nicole founded the Little Readers Society. The Little Readers approach is one-of-kind and aims to engage students in actively social learning in small group settings. TLRS curriculum is multi-sensory and fun all while providing phonemic awareness and explicit phonetic instruction. Additionally, TRLS take home literacy boxes provide parents and children with easy-to-use literacy resources, allowing families to engage in reading strategies together at home.
The Little Readers Society continues to create new ways to provide meaningful instruction to emerging readers!
